This Sunday, February 5 is our Youth Super Bowl Tailgate Party from 3-5pm.  Bring your favorite tailgate snack to share - I'll be grilling hot wings again!  Don't forget a sack chair to sit on and bring footballs, frisbees, etc.  INVITE A FRIEND!  There will be some very nice door prizes!  If you want to participate in the secret you-know-what, be in the church parking lot at 1:45pm!  All middle school youth are asked to plan to be here at 1:45pm!

Event Fees
We do our best to keep the costs of our events down.  We also understand that sometimes, fees are due at times that may be inconvenient for our families.  Please don't let an immediate lack of family funds prevent your youth from participating in our youth events!  We have scholarship funding available, whether a patial or full scholarship is needed.  All you have to do is contact me (Wes Pardue) and request a scholarship!

N*Light*N Trip - Atlanta
N*Light*N is heading to Atlanta February 25-26!  We very much need youth to sign up early!!  As part of our trip we are going to the Georgia Aquarium.  In order to get the group discount, we must finalize our order 2 weeks in advance.  That means the early bird deadline is February 8, ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW!  The price of this trip goes up after that date!  Forms were sent home last week and Ms. Jan is mailing them to all families this week.  You can also find the permission form online at the youth webpage

PARENT AND YOUTH MEETING!

Please plan to attend our very important Parent and Youth meeting this Sunday, January 22, at 4pm.  This is a very crucial meeting in the life of our church and youth ministry!  As we consider the mission of our church, we will be looking to the future of youth ministry at Broad Street.  This includes making some healthy improvements, setting some goals, and dreaming about the possibilities.

PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND!
We need every youth and parent present.  This is very important!  If you are unable to attend, please let me know so that I can follow up with you in person.

Grace, Peace, and Excitement about the Future!

BSUMC Weekly Youth Update - January 16

In memory of the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., here is one of my favorite quotes.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Announcements:

CHURCH/PARENT/YOUTH PARTNERSHIP MEETING
Please plan to attend the youth and parent meeting this Sunday, January 22 at 4pm in Triplett Hall.  I will be presenting the mission and purpose of our youth ministry.  We will discuss our current direction and look at the future to see where we are headed.  Please bring your completed 2012 medical forms at this time.  We are thankful that Kellye Collins will be present to notarize your forms.  I love to say that this meeting was required of all youth families, but it is required of families whose youth intend to go to Warmth in Winter as we will discuss the trip at the end of the meeting.

WARMTH IN WINTER
January 27-29 - I will be closing this trip to finalize our plans this week.  Please contact me immediately for last minute registration!!

SUPERBOWL PARTY & SIXTH GRADER KIDNAPPING
February 5 is the big day.  The Tailgate Party itself will be from 3-5pm in the parking lot weather permitting.  I am planning to grill hot wings again.  Youth are encouraged to bring their favorite tailgate snack (finger foods please) to share.  Drinks will be provided. Middle school youth and other "kidnappers" should plan to arrive at church by 1:45pm.

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT the youth website, http://www.broadstreetyouth.blogspot.com/, and the new youth info center across from the elevator in the lobby!

PARENT HELPERS FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL
Be on the lookout for the Sunday School Parent Helper Assignements going out very soon!

MIDDLE SCHOOL SUNDAY SCHOOL FOLLOW UP
This week youth studied John 21 - Jesus appears to the seven disciples while they were fishing - "Cast your nets to the right side" and Jesus Reinstates Peter - "Peter, do you love me?  Then feed my sheep"  Here are a few follow up questions for you to ask your youth: Why do you think the disciples didn't recognize Jesus at first?  What prevents us from recognizing Jesus when we see Him?  Put yourself in Peter's position... Jesus asks us, "Do you love me."  How do you answer?  If we answer "Yes", what is it that He asks us to do?

Grace and Peace,
Wes

Next GLOW gathering: the paradox of "The Messiah as Servant."

All youth and parents, please plan to attend the Youth & Parent Meeting on January 22 at 4pm in Triplett Hall.  Bring your 2012 Medical Form.  We plan to have a notary present.  This will be a great time for parents to learn about our vision for Youth Ministry as well as receive information relevant to Warmth in Winter.  Although the meeting is intended for all Youth Families, it is required for participants of Warmth in Winter.  Please contact me with any questions or to RSVP regrets.

Grace and Peace,

This Sunday, January 8
GLOW (Middle school youth) meets from 4pm-6pm in the youth department.  Now is a perfect time for youth to connect and reconnect with their friends!

The next High School Gathering is this Sunday at 6:30pm at Zaxby's on 25th St.  We are sad to say goodbye to Mindy Bibko, who has led the gatherings along with the Crouches.  She has certainly left big shoes to fill.  We wish the Bibkos all the best in their move to New York.
